Business Report has compiled a directory of available retail buildings with more than 20,000 square feet, in an attempt to spur creative economic development of abandoned buildings around our city's core.
A non-retail business locating or expanding in a city-parish-designated Enterprise Zone will receive a rebate of 1.9 percent of the sales tax paid to the city-parish for construction materials and equipment and 4 percent of the state sales tax. The state will also credit $2,500 to the business' income tax for each new job created.
Under city-parish guidelines, if the business is retail, it will not qualify for local tax rebates unless it is located in a Census Tract and Block Group with a minimum of 55 percent of lower-income residents.
A preliminary review of project eligibility is completed by the city-parish at the time of application. Even if it does not meet the eligibility criteria for local tax rebates, it may still qualify for state benefits.
