Fashion designer Michael Kors leases space for NYC flagship - New York City - Brief Article
American fashion designer Michael Kors has announced that the company will open its global retail flagship at 974 Madison Avenue.
The 1999 Council of Fashion Designers of America Women's Wear Designer of the Year has leased 3,500 square feet of space for 10 years at the corner of Madison and 76th Street to showcase his women's and men's collections. Construction for the boutique will start early next year and will be completed by mid-year 2000. The store will open in time for the Fall 2000 collection selling season.
Alexandra Frangos, senior managing director of the retail brokerage division of Colliers ABR, Inc. represented the tenant, along with Robert Billingsley, executive vice president, and William Melville, director. J. Everett Hill, vice president of Peter Sharp & Co., represented the landlord.
Commenting on the transaction, Kors said "Part of our ultimate goal for collection has always included plans for a store, and I am thrilled. I see our store as the ultimate 'dress shop' in the ultimate neighborhood in the ultimate city... a place to go for all of our customers' needs."
"Michael and I looked for the right space for a long time," said John Orchulli, co-chairman and CEO of Michael Kors, LLC. "When we saw this, we knew it was perfect."
"This is an exceptional location," Frangos said, noting that the Madison Avenue Gold Coast has extended north of 72nd Street to 79th Street. "Michael Kors will be in excellent company, with Carolina Herrera, Missoni, Vera Wang and Issey Miyake as retail neighbors."
