Black celebrities model fashions at benefit for AIDS research - Macy's Passport '96 fashion show in Los Angeles, CA - Brief Article
Earvin "Magic" Johnson and screen legend Elizabeth Taylor recently served as chairpersons of a dazzling, star-studded fashion show in suburban Los Angeles to help raise money for AIDS research.
The fashion show, entitled "Macy's 'Passport '96'," was held at the Santa Monica Air Center and featured such celebrity models as Tyra Banks RuPaul, Kim Coles, Lela Rochon, Joely Fisher and Jennifer Holliday. Also present was Olympic gold medalist Michael Johnson.
Macy's Passport '96 premiered some of the world-famous department store's fall fashions for men, women and children. In addition to celebrity models, the show featured live performances by the West African family drumming & dance troupe Jamaa Pamoja and percussionists D'CuCKOO.
The event raised monies for such AIDS organizations as the Magic Johnson AIDS Foundation, AmFAR (American Foundation for AIDS Research), Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation and UCLA's AIDS Institute. The fashion show was preceded by the VIP reception and dinner.
