How to install program in linux

Question from rpotter "I need to install a soundcard driver module, when I do a /sbin/modprobe cs46xx I get module not found. Can anyone please tell me how to install this module and/or where do I get the module?"

Answer from ramram29 "In my RedHat 7.3 it is located on my folder

/lib/modules/2.4.18-3/kernel/drivers/sound

To run the module type:

insmod /lib/modules/2.4.18-3/kernel/drivers/sound/cs46xx.o

You can also edit the /etc/rc.d/rc.local file and include it in there. To do so type:

vi /etc/rc.d/rc.local

press a to go into insert mode. Go down to the end of the file and type;

insmod /lib/modules/2.4.18-3/kernel/drivers/sound/cs46xx.o

then press Esc then wq, Enter (to save and exit vi).

After you restart then the insert module program (insmod) will load it in memory from the rc.local script."
