The UK-based Linux software provider LinuxIT has introduces an anti-virus system for all mail servers running the Linux operating system.
There are two versions of the anti-virus service - LinuxIT Email Virus Protection and LinuxIT Total Network Protection.
The e-mail protection service provides anti-virus software that automatically scans all incoming and outgoing e-mails and associated attachments. When a virus is found the server sends a notification e-mail to the sender and the recipient as well as to the e-mail administrator, while the e-mail or attachment containing the virus is quarantined. The service covers the installation of the anti-virus software and the binding of the software to a mail transfer agent chosen by the customer.
The other service, Total Network Protection, offers the features of Email Virus Protection together with scanning of the clients on the network.
The first anti-virus software to include the new service will come from Sophos.
