HICOMP Announces HIBACK For LINUX, Completing HICOMP's Enterprise Wide Backup Solution for Heterogeneous Client/Server Environments - Product Announcement
HICOMP Software Systems Inc., the developer of enterprise data backup strategies for client/server environments, Monday announced that its HIBACK backup software is now released for the increasingly popular LINUX operating system, supporting all LINUX distributions with kernel 2.2 or later. This HIBACK version which can be installed as a client or a server, makes LINUX a player in the Enterprise backup strategy alongside the other platforms HIBACK supports, including UNIX, HP-MPE and Windows NT.
The LINUX-based HIBACK server can receive backups from HIBACK running on other platforms and it can also control robotic devices such as DAT and DLT autoloaders, tape libraries and optical jukeboxes. The HIBACK client performs the backup on the LINUX machine, with optional encryption and compression and sends the backup stream to a server, either locally or over the network.
HIBACK for LINUX can also participate in HICOMP's Host Sharing solution for LAN-free backups. HICOMP's products are well suited to enterprise backup environments that exist in heterogeneous LAN and WAN networks where central control and administration are required. HIBACK & HIBARS are ready for SAN (Storage Area Network) and LAN-free technologies by design. Since 1983, HICOMP, a 100% subsidiary of COPE (OTC Bulletin Board: COPE; http://www.copegroup.com), has been involved in development, market and support of integrated enterprise data backup strategies for heterogeneous client/server computing environments; especially for UNIX, HP MPE, NT and more recently for LINUX. Today, The HIBACK & HIBARS backup strategy is among the best and highest performance alternative currently available on the market, which represent the perfect solution for fast, secure and efficient database backup, such as SAP R/3, Oracle, Informix, Adabas, MS-SQL and Exchange.
