Central Command warns of Windows/Linux cross platform virus - Company Business and Marketing - Brief Article

INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The US-based anti-virus software developer Central Command Inc says it has discovered the first cross platform virus capable of infecting both Windows- and Linux-based computers.

The W32.Winux virus (W32/Winux, W32/Lindose and W32.PEElf.2132), which is believed to have originated in the Czech Republic, is a non-memory resident virus that can replicate under Windows 95/98/Me/NT/ 2000 and Linux systems and infects PE files (Windows executable) and ELF files (Linux executable) of at least 100Kb in size in the current directory path.

According to Central Command the virus does not have a destructive payload and is considered low risk. Further information is available at http://www.avx.com.
