NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 31, 2001
Linux World--Secant Technologies Inc., provider of the Model-Driven Infrastructure(TM), will demonstrate a Linux-based computing farm solution that was co-developed with Incyte Genomics, Inc. (Nasdaq: INCY) at IBM's Booth (329) at the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo. The technology preview, which runs from January 31 to February 2, is the result of a collaboration between Secant, Incyte and IBM, and will show how advanced computing farm technology can accelerate life sciences research.
"Genomic Data is growing exponentially and requires sophisticated information technology solutions," said Anne-Marie Deroualt, director of business development, IBM Life Sciences. "IBM is committed to working with companies such as Secant to address the needs of the Life Sciences community."
Designed for pharmaceutical companies and biotech research institutions, the ground-breaking technology, which runs on a Linux-based IBM eServer xSeries, can accelerate the computation of complex queries against multiple genomic databases. The LinuxWorld demonstration will show how to create, submit and execute computational jobs, and manage all aspects of the computing farm resources.
"Secant is excited to preview this Linux-based workflow and server farm application for life sciences research," states John Pompeii, chief technology officer of Secant. "The demonstration shows the scalability, reliability, and flexibility of the computing farm technology and is a perfect application for the biotech marketplace."
Incyte Genomics, a Life Sciences partner to both Secant and IBM, played a key role in the design of the computing farm solution, which is a core element of Incyte's Genomic Knowledge Platform. "The value of a computing farm system is the impact that it has in accelerating the complex, data-intensive computations involved in drug discovery research," said Lisa Kenney, senior director of product marketing at Incyte.
"We are pleased to be working with Incyte and IBM to define the cutting edge of Linux-based solutions for Life Sciences," said Jim Holt, president of Secant. "By offering a complete solution to search vast quantities of genomic data and execute hundreds or thousands of jobs simultaneously, researchers and scientists can better leverage the value of the data while maintaining control over the analysis phase of the process."
