WebTop launches Linux version of desktop search tool
INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
Information retrieval systems provider WebTop has introduced a Linux beta trial of Personal Desktop Assistant (PDA), its desktop search tool.
The new software is designed to enable Linux users to instantly access over 0.5bn indexed web documents from any window they are currently working in. Instead of the user launching a browser and then being limited to one- or two-word keyword searches as in many other systems, the PDA allows users to highlight words or sentences in any electronic document and to click on the PDA icon. The system then searches WebTop's repository to provide context-specific, relevant results.
The Linux version of WebCheck is available on the comp.os.linux usenet group. Users can download an executable binary from WebTop's server at http://www.webtop.com.
