Nombas brings scripts to servers - ScriptEase WebServer Edition 4.0 Web development tool - Product Announcement - Brief Article

Nombas Inc. earlier this month released a new version of its Web development tool. ScriptEase:WebServer Edition 4.0 can lend JavaScript compatibility to any Web server, the company said.

Based on ScriptEase, the company's scripting language, the package is designed to replace PERL for creating CGIs. Jim Hemenway, Nombas vice president of sales and marketing, said the ScriptEase language complies with ECMAscript, a standard for Web scripting that was originally based on JavaScript. ScriptEase adds some capabilities on top of its ECMAscript compliance, Hemenway said.

With ScriptEase:WebServer Edition, users can create customer surveys, database queries, forms for electronic commerce and games, according to the company.

Version 4.0 features a remote debugging tool that the company said allows Web administrators to set constant and expression-dependent breakpoints from a remote client over the Internet. Nombas said this feature lets Internet service providers give customers password-protected access to their HTML code.

In addition, Version 4.0 includes built-in functions for processing forms, outputting HTML, monitoring TCP/IP socket use and generating images on the fly, the company said. The software also comes with ready-made scripts.

Nombas first released a Mac version of ScriptEase:WebServer Edition in the fall of 1996 (see 09.16.96, Page 18).

ScriptEase:WebServer Edition 4.0 is available for $129; upgrades from Version 3.0 are $49. The package is also available for Windows 3.1, 95 and NT; Unix; Linux; and OS/2.
