Spectrum has developed the Pocket Data Interface accessory to be used in conjunction with a Fujitsu Stylus pocket cellular phone. Spectrum's product allows Fujitsu phones to connect to portable computer moderns or facsimile machines for data communications transmissions wherever cellular service is available.
The Pocket Data Interface is smaller than a deck of cards and operates on a single 9-volt battery to provide a standard RJiI connection. ...AT&T Microelectronics Ships Speaker-Trained Voice Recognizer
Elsewhere, AT&T Microelectronics has developed the DSP 16A-based SpeakerTrained Voice Recognizer, designed to make car-phone usage safer. The product was created to be the heart of a hands-free, voice directory in an analog or digital mobile cellular telephone. such as
The Voice Recognizer also can be applied to other consumer products digital answering machines. The Speaker-Trained Voice Recognizer has a training mode to allow a user to store in its memory up to 40 spoken keywords for two seconds in duration.
The product's recognition mode then permits the user to control the phone's dialing process by speaking a phrase. With 95 percent accuracy, the Recognizer returns a tag (control word) to the host to indicate which keyword was identified, and then the host initiates the requested action. In a cellular phone application, the user dials a number by speaking a key word such as a person's name.
The Recognizer consists of a DSPi6Ai (8K x 8 on-chip ROM, 1K x 8 on-chip RAM) interface logic and a 32K x 8,150 ns Static Random Access Memory (SRAM). The interface logic allows a low-cost host microprocessor to control the Voice Recognizer.
In quantities of 10,000, the DSP with ROM coded Voice Recognizer software costs $20. The Speaker-Trained Voice Recognizer is supported by a pC-based development system, priced at $3,500. The product is shipped with production hardware schematics and a base set of host control source software, to provide a complete development package for a fast time-to-market.

Oki Telecom has developed its first hardpack car-to-car cellular phone, the Oki Phones 890. Total weight of the hardpack is 2.2 pounds and it can be plugged directly into a car's cigarette lighter. The phone has 50 memory and locations, 10 one-step dialing locations, constant signal strength indicator a feature labeled keypad.

...The Antenna Company's New Antennas Design Was Customer Driven
Broadview, Ill.-based The Antenna Company has introduced two antennas to the marketplace, the Alpha-l Elevated Feed-Lip mount antenna and the EclipsenII magnet-mount antenna. The Alpha-l was designed using input from customers
from its base installers throughout the country. The antenna can be detached and features a sturdy spring at the antenna's base to prevent damage from automatic car washes or being struckby a foreign object.
The Alpha-l has a lifetime warranty and in large quantities the antenna can be private-labelled.
The firm's Eclipse II antenna's base has been do|n|-sized for cosmetic appeal, while the magnet strength of the base has been increased to assure maximum adherence to the vehicle. To withstand the stress caused by tugging when removing the antenna from the vehicle, a reinforcement has been included where the cable enters the antenna. JT & T MFG. Inc. has developed the Rainbo Fast Charger XL-64. The portable, cellular-phone charger provides three-way charge protection, including constant monitoring during operation, trickle charge and automatic shut off. Rambo will charge a ni-cad battery for full power.
