ORLANDO, Fl.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 23, 1998--LG Information & Communication Ltd. (LGIC), today announced its two new 1.9GHz CDMA handsets for the North American market at PCIA's Personal Communications Showcase held this week in Orlando.

LG is steadily building a significant presence in the North American wireless cellular marketplace with its LGC-300W dual-mode cellular phone. The company is now positioning itself to replicate that success with PCS CDMA carriers and retailers.

LG's new LGP-2000W is a single-band PCS phone intended to provide 1.9GHz to carriers and retailers with an entry-tier CDMA handset that can be price positioned effectively against AMPS and TDMA handsets. It comes standard with a slim lithium ion battery rated at 850mAh and a dual-port rapid desktop charger. The slim battery provides up to 210 minutes of talk time and up to four hours of standby. An optional extended lithium ion battery offers up to 300 minutes of talk time and up to six hours of standby. The LGC-2000W is currently available from either LG or Brightpoint Inc.

The LGP-2000W is among the smallest and lightest entry-tier CDMA PCS phone available the in market today. It provides a strong feature package including vibration alert and also supports all advanced digital features available on the activating network. The product is currently being sold by EATEL and LG is discussing the product LGP-2000W with other carriers.

The new LGP-5000W, a dual-band/dual-mode PCS phone, is scheduled for commercial availability in late November of this year. It supports the same features and operational characteristics as the LGP-2000W and comes standard with a nickel-metal hydride battery rated at 1800mAh that provides up to 330 minutes of talk-time and 55 hours of standby in CDMA mode. The phone also comes standard with a dual-port rapid desktop charger in the box.

LG is looking to leverage its CDMA expertise it has built in other parts of the world into a leadership position in what the company expects to be an aggressive CDMA build-out in the Western Hemisphere. LG will be exhibiting its full line of CDMA products at the PCIA Personal Communications Showcase trade show in Orlando, Sept. 23 through 25. LG will also use the show to announce two new cellular dual-mode CDMA phones --the LGC-320W and LGC-330W.
