Systems Wireless phone as companion - Motorola Inc's i85s and i50sx smart phones - Product Announcement
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Motorola released two wireless handsets -- i85s and i50sx -- that combine a two-way radio, interactive pager and Internet-ready mobile phone in a single device.
The personal companions will be available through iDEN network operators.
The two handsets incorporate Java 2 Platform Micro Edition and enable the user to schedule a meeting in the phone's date-book, submit an expense report to the office remotely, use two-way messaging and play a Sega game during downtime. Users can also place and receive calls or use the handset's two-way radio capabilities, which offer instant communication with one or hundreds of individuals at the touch of a button, said the company.
These models were designed to provide personalization. Users can change Motorola's i85s handset settings to adapt to different environments such as home, office and car, which can be accessed through the phone's voice recognition feature.
According to the company, both handsets have sufficient flash memory to store several applications, which can be repeatedly updated.
The handsets come with pre-installed applications including productivity tools and the Sega game Borkov.
The i85s is designed for the mobile business professional who needs to stay connected with people and information, communicate more effectively, increase productivity and save time.
Both handsets support voice dialing, a voice recorder for taking verbal notes and customizable menus, said the company.
The i85s and i50sx come with Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) certification from Sun Microsystems.
The two handsets support a variety of operational accessories including a foldable keyboard for messaging and data entry, a hands-free car kit, several headsets, chargers and holders and interchangeable faceplates for the i50sx model.
