Sex, MP3 Music Top Southeast Asian Web Searches - Industry Trend or Event
Sex and MP3 are among the top subjects of Web searches performed by Southeast Asian Internet users, according to search records revealed by one of the region's biggest search sites, Catcha.com.
Catcha.com collected data from its claimed 500,000 queries per day on its portals covering Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.
Sex was the favorite Catcha.com search topic in every country, except in the Philippines, where it ranked second to "Jocelyn Jimenez."
After sex, music was the dominant interest of Southeast Asian Internet users. "MP3" was ranked second and "lyrics," "music" and "Chinese MP3" all made it into the top 50 search terms.
Telecom-related words also made a strong impression on the list, including "SMS," "handphone" and "ringtones." In fact, the top commercial company searched for was Nokia.
Other strong areas of interest were travel, entertainment, shopping and auto.
According to Net research company www.consult's year 2000 Internet Usage Report, four of Catcha.com's five Southeast Asian portals are the top local search engine portal in their individual markets.
