SanDisk Will Supply MultiMediaCards for New IO-Data Portable MP3 Internet Music Player; Two SanDisk MultiMediaCards Will Be Included With The Sale Of Each
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 18, 1999--
SanDisk Corporation (Nasdaq:SNDK) announced today that it will supply IO-Data Device, Inc. of Japan with its MultiMediaCard for storage of MP3 audio in its new portable internet music player, the Mobile Digital Music HyperHyde (MDM-H2).
Two SanDisk MultiMediaCards will be included with each MP3 Player sold. The portable Internet music player is designed with two specific slots for MultiMediaCards to be used as the primary storage medium for MP3 formatted audio files.
The announcement was made at the Fall '99 COMDEX trade show in Las Vegas, NV, Nov. 15-19(SanDisk booth: Las Vegas Convention Center, North Hall, L-1509).
Nelson Chan, vice president of marketing at SanDisk, said, "IO-Data is a well known Japanese personal computer peripheral devices company. Its endorsement of our MultiMediaCard as the storage device for digital music further solidifies our vision that our flash memory is a viable solution for audio storage. The market is developing an accelerated interest in MP3 Internet music players, and companies like IO-Data are stepping up to support the needs of the market by introducing high quality, small and stylish products such as the HyperHyde."
Expected to enter the market in early November, the IO-Data HyperHyde will carry a street price of 19,800 Yen or approximately US$170. The palm-sized unit measures 47.2 mm x 53.5 mm x 16.6 mm and includes a voice recording feature which allows for almost 4 minutes of quality voice recording per megabyte. The Hyper-Hyde will be sold with two SanDisk MultiMediaCards in addition to encoding software for compressing audio files into MP3 formats, a parallel cable for transferring audio files between the player and a desktop computer and inner-earphones.
