Rackspace partners with Zend to add PHP for ASP services

Backspace Managed Hosting (www.rackspace.com), a San Antonio, Texasbased provider ofma hosting services, has partnered with Zend Technologies, a provider of PHP technology, to provide managed hosting services to its customers (www.zend.rackspace.com).

Zend (www.zend.com) is an internationally established provider of commercial solutions to enhance performance and productivity of PHP, the open-source serverside scripting language for dynamic Web sites.

Weston said Backspace was the fast managed hosting company to support the Linux operating system. With locations in Texas and London, Backspace manages more than 3,500 servers - 2,400 of them Linux - for customers in more than 60 countries.

The partnership bundles managed hosting packages from Backspace with Zend's PUP solutions, providing a turkey platform for developers to build dynamic Web applications.

"This is a benefit to Backspace customers, many of whom use PHP technology to power their Web sites," he said. "Rackspace has long been a supporter of the PHP movement- as evidenced by our own Web site, which is developed completely in the language."

The Zend Cache boosts the performance and efficiency of PHP-driven Web sites, enabling sites to handle far more page views and transactions.

Additionally, it uses less memory, accelerates dynamic content, cuts latency, saves computing resources and cuts hardware requirements.

The Zend Cache is completely transparent to the user.

The Zend Developer Server Suite provides constant updates to Zend's most popular products. This package includes the Zend IDE for PHP to speed code development time; the Zend LaunchPad for quality-- assured, hassle-free, updated PUP downloads; the Zend Encoder Unlimited for protecting intellectual property by encoding an unlimited number of PHP applications and distributing to an unlimited number of end users; and Zend Support Online Services for prompt responses to specified number of incidents from a worldwide team of Zend experts.
